The New Diet Couple: Vegan And Paleo = “Pegan”

There’s a diet trend making waves called the “pegan” diet, which is a happy blend of the paleo diet and vegan diet. For years, we’ve heard how beneficial the vegan diet is. And these days, it’s becoming more and more popular. Whether it’s for health reasons or out of respect to animals and a desire to reduce stress on the planet, the vegan diet has been heavily embraced.

Then there’s the paleo diet. It’s on the opposite end of the spectrum. This diet is supposedly based on the types of foods eaten by early humans. It is made up of mostly meat, fish, vegetables and fruit, but does not include dairy, grains or any processed food. Just straight up meat, veggies and fruits.

The beauty of the “pegan” diet is that it is a combination of both, so you can enjoy the benefits of both. To get started with this diet, begin with eating foods that are low in sugar and starch. That way, you’re cutting food that could be harmful to you in the long run.

In cases where you do eat animal food, stick with meats that have been grass fed. Also, enjoy foods that have lots of good fat such as nuts and seeds, olive oil and avocados.

When it’s all said and done, try to eat as many whole foods as you can like fruits, veggies, grains, fish and poultry. This optimizes your chances of having a huge nutritious meal.
