How Stress Affects Our Skin

We often get stressed in our daily life, and while small doses of stress can actually be healthy, too much stress can cause bad effects on our skin. Stress can cause acne, rashes, eczema, hives, breakouts, and dry or dull skin.

How Does Stress Affect Our Skin

Our brain is connected to our skin, and there are many nerve endings throughout our skin. When we are stressed, it causes hormonal disbalance and we produce excess adrenaline, which elevates the production of cortisol, known as the stress hormone. Skin is the largest organ, and we often see the results of stress on our skin. When there is more cortisol in our body, the body responds by producing more oils, which then clogs our pores and, in turn, causes inflammation, pimples, and other problems.

Quick Fixes For Acne And Blemishes

Salicylic acid, charcoal, and benzoyl peroxide are all known to help with acne and inflammation.

Salicylic acid is a BHA, and it helps to unclog pores and purify them. It is gentle enough to use every day, and has excellent benefits when used in cleansers or moisturizers.

Charcoal is excellent for drawing out impurities, and can be found in a lot of face cleansers and masks.

Benzoyl peroxide is one of the more potent ingredients for fighting acne. It should be tried out on a small portion of skin first, since some people react badly to it. It also works great as a spot treatment.

Quick Fixes For Dry And Dull Skin

If you are prone to dry skin, it is more likely to occur during periods of high stress.

Using hypoallergenic and fragrance-free products will help prevent further dryness and inflammation.

Products with hyaluronic acid are also great for your skin because hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring ingredient found in our bodies, which holds a thousand times its weight in water!

The long-term solutions for keeping your skin well hydrated and healthy is drinking a lot of water, green tea, and lemon water. It is always a good idea to increase your water intake, especially if your eyes and skin are feeling dry.
