Don’t Let Acne Control Your Dating Life

The emotional distress that can come with acne is no joke. It is known to cause anxiety and even depression and can take a severe toll on your happiness. If you suffer from acne, you may constantly think about your skin and what other people must think when they see it. The overall lack of control over your skin can make you feel powerless, even if you have tried every acne cure out there. Saying yes to spontaneous plans seems impossible, and dating is more anxiety-inducing than exciting.

We’re here to remind you that this is no way to live! According to the American Academy of Dermatology, acne is the most common skin condition in the United States, with approximately 85 percent of people between the ages of 12 and 24 experiencing at least minor acne. It also reports that roughly 15 percent of women in their 30s and 40s also experience acne. Allowing acne to prevent you from enjoying your life is only giving it even more power and control – so don’t do it!

You also have control over the people you allow into your life. If you’re dating someone worthy of you, they won’t care how your skin looks. Most people don’t. If they like you enough to commit, your skin won’t scare them away. If it does, is that someone you want to be with anyway?

It’s important to remember that your value and worthiness of love do not come down to your skin. Your acne may be all you see when you look in the mirror, but it is not what others see. So try not to let acne prevent you from dating or enjoying any other aspects of life. It isn’t worth it.
