Jennifer’s Brain and Energy Boosting Breakfast Smoothie gives you energy, boosts your mood and helps fix anxiety. It’s a perfect way to start your day off right!
Did you know that many people’s anxiety and mood swings are low blood sugar induced? Have you ever seen a child get cranky or throw a temper tantrum when it’s past their meal time? These are perfect examples of low blood sugar effects. Well it’s not just kids folks — what do you think happens to us when we don’t eat or feed ourselves properly? When your blood sugar level crashes you can often feel jittery, headachy or agitated. As Dr. Kelley Brogan says regarding adding healthy fats to our breakfast, “[this aggressive infusion of fat] supports their brain, hormone and metabolic functioning.”
Ditch the high sugar foods you typically have for breakfast that offer no healthy fats & protein. They only spike your blood sugar and leave you crashing soon after. This breakfast smoothie combines fats and proteins to help stabilize your blood sugar until your next meal. The human brain is more than 60% fat, so consuming adequate amounts of healthy fats is critical for optimal mental health.
Important ingredients:
Collagen: Offers a great protein source as well as a high glycine content of gelatin that may help with insomnia, anxiety, joints, hair, and skin.
Ghee: Used for thousands of years and a staple in Ayurvedic healing practices, ghee is one of the most powerful healing foods out there. Ghee is Grass-fed butter clarified of lactose and casein. It is high in butyrate, CLA, and fat-soluble vitamins A, D, and K. This fatty acid butyrate is also made by the gut flora when you eat fiber. It can be used for energy and cell gut integrity. Butyrate is key to promoting a healthy gut microbiome, which plays a major role in your health.
Coconut or MCT oil [medium chain triglycerides]: These fats don’t require pancreatic enzymes for digestion and are immediately available for energy. This oil gives you longer sustained energy and boosts your metabolism. Also known as brain fuel!
My favorite blender is the Vitamix A2500, but other options that are great and get the job done are Blend Tec and the Ninja Blender.
