How to Get Over the Whole Hibernation Thing

So, you feel like you’ve been a hermit for at least a solid month? That’s probably because you have been. It’s cold and dreary out, and way more comfortable inside. Who would want to be outside when you can stay curled up wearing your winter onesie and sipping on your third cup of hot chocolate (no judgment here!). It’s the first week of February, which means we are on the horizon to Spring! To kick binge-watching on repeat and keep social plans, read on. Don’t be the flop friend.

Invite & Host

The best way to break the cozy and comfy pattern: play the role of host. Whether hosting a casual get-together or classic party, preparing and planning an event is the perfect way to escape the seasonal funk. From making the guest list and sending out the invites to picking up decorations and stocking the fridge, the process of hosting is more than opening the door and welcoming friends and family into your home. With a little extra to-do work, keep busy to avoid hermit life.

Reply & Commit

Making excuses, cancelling plans, re-scheduling get-togethers: we all do it. With the click of a button, it’s easy to wait and respond — or change your mind — on the day of a social event. Depending on your family life, friend circle, workweek, level of energy and quality of sleep, getting ready and making an appearance can be a last minute decision. Quick tip: reciprocate the effort of others to maintain a strong relationship. When making plans, reply and commit early to get over the hibernation hurtle.

Pair & Schedule

Not ready to hit the slopes every day of the week? No problem. Brave the cold one mission at a time. Create a routine by pairing one day of the week and one social or personal activity to get you through the next month (or two). For example, make it to the gym on Monday, schedule dinner and movie with a friend on Tuesday or attend an after-work class on Wednesday. Whether you’re a foodie or a fitness guru, don’t let the snow and ice temporarily kill your vibe.
