If you’re here, you want to learn more about period underwear! Below, we’ve compiled some information to help you decide whether period underwear is right for you, along with some product options.
What Is Period Underwear?
There has been a recent increase in brands selling forms of “period underwear.” Most of these styles feature an absorbent, multilayered crotch area typically made of microfiber polyester designed to soak up menstrual blood. The fabric has thousands of tiny filaments to trap the blood or any other liquid and prevent it from leaking. Many styles all feature odor-control technology.
Some women use period underwear as an added layer of protection to their traditional period products; others use it in lieu of these products. Period underwear are environmentally friendly (less waste) and easy to care for (machine-washable). They are also cost-effective because they are reusable. Note: Period products are now Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) eligible; you may be able to get reimbursement through your HSA or FSA.
