Eight Celebs Who Are Social Media Quitters

Some of your favorite stars quit social media after a trolling or trashing but found they could only stay away from their fans a couple of days. Other social media biggies such as Alec Baldwin have come and gone two or three times. Some celebs, however, have said “Bye, Bye, Bye” and meant it. Here are eight quitters who have made good on their vows never to return—so far.

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber closed his Instagram account in August 2016 after warning fans he’d disappear if they continued unfriendly posts about his girlfriend Sofia Richie. The fans paid no heed, and Bieber made good his threat only to break up with Richie one month later.

Louis C.K.

The actor and comedian found Twitter ate up too much of his time, and he deactivated in 2014. Don’t look for him back any time soon; he’s said he found the experience a disappointing one.

Keira Knightley

Another star who admits she found the whole Twitter experience a bust is “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” actress Keira Knightley. She has said she lasted 12 hours on social media before deleting her account.

Lindsay Lohan

Missing in social media action is Lindsay Lohan, who has not written on Facebook since her last Dec. 29, 2016 post.  She took down her Twitter and Instagram posts earlier this year although she’s left the accounts active. Her farewell on Instagram was the Arabic phrase meaning “Peace Be With You.”

Daisy Ridley

Don’t look for the star of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” back on Instagram anytime soon. Daisy Ridley

Ed Sheeran

The singer and songwriter left on a graceful note in December 2015 when he posted “Thank you for being amazing.” Ed Sheeran hasn’t surfaced on his social media accounts since he said he’d be taking a break for a while.

Sam Smith

Sam Smith’s last Twitter post came on June 13, 2016 when he paid tribute to victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting. Earlier last year he had been attacked on social media by trolls after declaring he had been the first openly gay man to win an Academy Award. He Tweeted then that he would be taking a break.

Emma Stone

“Superbad” actress Emma Stone Tweeted just once before hackers locked her out of her account. She hasn’t returned since the hijacking left her unable to delete the account.

Linda Parham

Linda Parham is a journalist and writer who enjoys creating entertaining blogs. She started out as a newspaper reporter before moving on to editing magazines and newsletters. Linda specializes in writing about beauty, health, fitness, business and politics.
