Donation Destination: Where to Send Your Pre-Loved Treasures

Decluttering feels great – even more so when we know our unwanted items will benefit others. Do you have a lot of clothes and household goods to donate but aren’t sure where to take your pre-loved treasures? Here are some highly regarded institutions you can turn to!

GreenDrop

GreenDrop collects gently used clothing and household goods for its partner nonprofits, including the Purple Heart Foundation and the National Federation of the Blind. Dress For Success

Dress For Success’ core mission is to empower women to achieve economic independence. The organization offers free professional attire and workshops, assists with resumes and mock interviews, provides networking opportunities, and offers support groups. It accepts clothes no more than five years old, clean, and on hangers. Find your local chapter to see donation locations and days.

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army provides many services, including job training, homeless shelters, summer camps, and afterschool programs. It also accepts donations of goods, such as appliances, cars, children’s clothes and toys, furniture, and clothing. For a complete list of items you can donate, click here. You can drop off goods at your local Salvation Army or schedule a pickup.

Goodwill

Goodwill is a well-known organization that seeks to empower those facing barriers to employment, such as disabilities, lack of experience, or criminal records. It prides itself on diverting reusable items such as clothing and home goods from landfills and offering them in its thrift stores for resale. Find your local donation center for more information.

Local Shelter

Another way to donate pre-loved treasures is by bringing them to a local women’s shelter or homeless shelter. Be sure to contact the shelter beforehand to learn what items they accept and their hours of operation. Some shelters only take items on specific days of the month or quarter when they hold collection drives.
