With the passing of Labor Day Weekend, it’s the unofficial start of fall. Beyond pumpkin spice lattes and gaudy gourd décor, there are other signs of the season that represent the onset of cool weather to come. My absolute favorite thing about fall? The fashion.

Every year fall trends come with modern updates that make them ever more fun and playful than the year before. Below are the biggest trends you’ll see this season, so get ready to revamp your wardrobe!

Rib Knit

You may have already seen this fabric this summer in the form of tight, slinky dresses paired with sneakers or sandals. The fall update comes in the form of long-sleeve layers and form-fitting sweaters. This fabrication is super-soft, looks amazing paired with jeans, and can easily be dressed up or down depending on the occasion (but let’s be real, these days we’ve all been pretty casual). Rib knit is a very evergreen trend, so you’ll easily be able to wear these pieces year after year. Don’t be afraid to invest. Cutouts

Again, here’s a trend that carries over from summer in a different way to work for both seasons. What was once cutouts at the hips and sides has moved to the shoulders or chest. This adds a flirtatious tone to the average top or sweater. This will be especially big early in the season, before we start layering on jackets, so get to shopping now—once we hit true sweater weather you are ready to shine. 90s Denim

Oversized, somewhat baggy jeans are going to be huge (no pun intended) for fall. Different from boyfriend jeans, which stay tapered and tailored, these jeans have an overall baggier and grungier element that has us wanting to blast some Nirvana. To balance the look, pair these jeans with a fitted or cropped sweater to flatter every body type. Rise and distressing are up to you, but the key is adding a bit of volume to the bottom half of your outfit. Click here for this Falls must have jeans!

Faux Leather

This can come in all forms and silhouettes: jackets, shell tops, long shorts, pants, and more. There’s practically no style of clothing not being made in a faux leather material these days. We saw faux leather make an appearance this summer in the form of bermuda shorts and it has emerged as a huge trend for fall. You can use it to accent your outfits or go head-to-toe in this trend. Players choice, but this is definitely the trend for the fashion-forward fall dresser. Click here for a perfect fall faux leather skirt.

Chunky Jewelry

Pull it all together this fall with chunky chain jewelry. Whether it’s a necklace, bracelet, earrings, or all of the above, big pieces are the accent of the season. Don’t worry, dainty jewelry is still in (we really don’t see this trend ever leaving), but if you’re looking to expand your jewelry palette, fall is a great time to try something a bit more statement-oriented to amp up your simpler looks. Click here for this seasons must have chunky necklace (it’s perfect for layering, too!)
