We are firm believers that there are no strict rules anyone should be following in regards to fashion. No matter how tall you are, how short you are, what you weigh, or what color your hair is, we believe in wearing pieces that fully accomplish the look you are going for. Whether you’re giving us major boho vibes, having a minimalist moment, or you just love the volume of mixing bold prints, all styles are game here.
Age is no different. No matter how much life experience you have, we stan a stylish queen. Here are a few of our favorite celebrities that have impeccable style – and just happen to be over the age of 40!
- Kerry Washington, 44

Kerry Washington is serving us a whole look here, and we aren’t sure what we did to deserve it. Whether it’s a pink statement coat, a wide-leg snakeskin trouser, or a jumpsuit on the red carpet, there isn’t anything Kerry Washington can’t absolutely rock.
We’re pretty sure anyone can conclude that if you think you can’t wear something simply because of your age, you’re wrong. Buy the pink statement coat. Buy the wide-leg snakeskin trousers. Buy the jumpsuit. You’ll thank yourself later.

- Marion Cotillard, 45

No one, and we mean no one, does Parisian chic like Marion Cotillard. The very essence of Parisian chic is keeping it simple – never overdone or overdressed. Statement pieces are just that: simply here to make a statement.
We love this black shift dress paired with a camel coat, pointed-toe booties, and the tortoise shell sunnies that just pull it all together. Marion Cotillard’s style is simply more proof that just because you’re over a certain age, doesn’t mean you have to dress a certain way.

- Cate Blanchett, 51

It would be a crime to talk about amazing style without bringing up Cate Blanchett. The pants. The blazer. The BELT. Who else could make a belt look so good? Cate’s style is unmatched; whether she’s heading to a movie set, walking the red carpet, or heading to a film festival in the midst of a pandemic (masked up and safely, of course!), we are here for it.
Who isn’t positively drooling over this wide-leg pant moment we see here? So yeah, Gen Z can keep the mom jeans.

- Sarah Paulson, 46

No big deal, just Sarah Paulson absolutely crushing it in a polka dot midi skirt. We absolutely love a midi skirt because one, they look absolutely amazing, and two, they’re super versatile to not only fit your style, but the seasons as well.
We love this polka dot skirt, and for the springtime we love it with a lightweight sweater or even a knotted white tee. To warm it up a little bit for the fall and winter, pair it with a super cozy chunky sweater, french tucked in, and pair the look with some pointed-toe booties.

- Michelle Obama, 57

Okay, so Queen Michelle Obama isn’t a “celebrity” per se, but she is queen of our hearts, and the woman can dress. We adore everything about this white off-the-shoulder, olive cargo moment she’s having here. Not to mention, with shoulders and arms like that, it just wouldn’t be right to not show them off.
We’re sure there’s some “rule” out there about not wearing off-the-shoulder tops after a certain age, but we simply don’t believe in that, and the proof is in the picture.

- Jennifer Lopez, 51

We could go on for days about Jennifer Lopez’s style. This woman has been serving us looks since she hit the scene. For spring and summer, we love these shorts paired with a tied-up oxford; it’s light enough to wear on the hottest of days, but can be dressed up enough to wear in the evening time to meet up with friends.
Don’t fret if you don’t love the sneakers. This fit would look just as killer paired with some slip-on sandals, pointed toe flats, or even a pair of pumps that are several inches off the ground.
