Some musicians pump out hit after hit over the years, but there are others that (for better or worse) only have one hit song before disappearing into music industry oblivion. And while we may have forgotten the names of the artists or bands that created these one-hit wonders, we could never forget the songs themselves! Here are some of our favorites!
Blu Cantrell – Hit ’Em Up Style
This soulful R&B song from 2001 never gets old! It was released during a time when female artists were representing strong women all over the world with beats that quickly turned them into girl power anthems.
Lit – My Own Worst Enemy
We couldn’t get enough of this song when it was released in 1999 – and we still can’t get enough now! Alternative and modern rock was widely popular in the ’90s and early 2000s, and this one-hit wonder spoke to our alternative music-loving hearts. Its pop-punk vibes helped make it memorable.
Mark Morrison – Return of the Mack
Another R&B ear worm, Mark Morrison’s 1996 hit “Return of the Mack” is a hype song for anyone putting themselves back on the market after heartbreak. We keep it on our playlist because it makes us feel so good!
Far East Movement – Like a G6
Far East Movement’s “Like A G 6” helped bring electro-pop to the mainstream in 2010. With pop sounds and catchy hooks, it’s no wonder the song is memorable! It is a great song to blast while on a road trip or getting ready for a night out!
Nine Days – Absolutely (Story of a Girl)
Indie pop and alternative rock have always gone hand in hand – and a song that embodies these genres is Nine Days’ “Absolutely (Story of a Girl).” Honestly, who can’t relate to this song in one way or another? We still rock out to it the way we did in the late 2000s.
