California is a beautiful place to visit, but as one of the largest states, you may not know where to start when planning a Golden State getaway. Here are some bucket-list-worthy things to do while you’re on vacation in Cali.
17-Mile Drive
This famous road meanders along the Monterey Bay coastline, taking drivers through the Del Monte Forest and past stunning mansions, pristine golf courses, and majestic beach scenes. Be sure to stop at the marked lookout points, including the Lone Cypress Tree. And be sure to dine at one of the local restaurants to take in the scenery. Or, spend the night at one of several hotels and resorts, like The Inn at Spanish Bay.
Yosemite Falls
A trip to Yosemite National Park is a glory in itself, but don’t miss the iconic Yosemite Falls while you’re in the area. And though you can see the falls from pretty much any vantage point once you enter the park, there’s nothing more special than a close-up view. So grab your hiking boots and follow the 1-mile trail at the base of the falls to Columbia Rock. If you prefer a challenge, climb the 3.5-mile trail to the 2,700-foot elevation.
San Diego Zoo
Fun for the entire family, the San Diego Zoo is beyond impressive, housing around 4,000 animals from more than 650 species and subspecies. The best part? Most exhibits are outdoors with fresh, open air, which means the animals are as close to their natural habits as possible.
The Getty Center
Featuring artwork dating from the Middle Ages to today, the Getty Center in Los Angeles has it all. If you’re into modern architecture or genuinely enjoy taking in fresh scents and sights from an outdoor garden, this is the place for you.
Theme Park Central
California is nothing less than a theme park paradise! Of course, there’s Disneyland, but if you’re more of a film and TV junkie, head to Universal Studios Hollywood for an experience that can’t be missed. And, SeaWorld San Diego has a new penguin habitat!
