Have you ever been out at a restaurant or bar and set your sights on a very confident person? Or do you have that one friend or co-worker who always exudes self-confidence wherever they go? No doubt, most of us wish we could have more confidence in ourselves. The good news? You can! Read on to learn how to gain more self-confidence.
Stop the Comparisons
Life is not a competition. To be more self-confident, you must stop looking at what other people seemingly have that you don’t. If you envy someone, remind yourself of your own strengths and successes. Focus on what you have and stop worrying about how this compares to others. Plus, you never know what another person is going through.
Use Positive Affirmations
Are you ready for a little activity? Affirmation cards can work wonders on self-confidence. Grab some index cards and a marker and write down positive statements you believe. Some examples include: “I am worthy,” “I am beautiful,” “I am smart,” “I am kind,” and “I am able.” Those are basic three-word affirmations, but you can go into more detail. Focus on who you are as a friend, a relative, or an employee. Regularly reading these affirmations aloud to yourself can help you grow confidence. The more you hear it, the more you should start to believe it!
Set Up Achievable Goals
One way to boost your confidence is to set yourself up for small wins with achievable goals. For example, if you want to exercise more, start with a daily half-hour walk. If your bank account is unstable, contribute $20 a week to a savings account. Go slow and steady. Setting unrealistic goals and being unable to reach them can knock at your self-confidence.
Make Time to Relax
Being stressed out 24/7 can lead to poor self-confidence, so try to recognize when it’s time to take a step back and relax. Take a bubble bath, attend a yoga class, go for a hike, meditate in peace, journal…whatever works for you!
Hold That Head High
When all else fails and you feel your confidence meter draining, stay strong. Looking the part may just get you through to the other side. Use your body language to show the world that you are confident. Stand up straight, put your shoulders back, and hold your head high. Fake it ’til you make it. One day, you’ll be there!
Thanks, I needed that!
