Calling all bookworms! Are you looking for a good book to dive into? Sometimes new releases don’t cut it. Instead, we urge you to check out (or re-read) some of these classic tales that have stood the test of time. Here are some of our favorite classic books.
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
To Kill a Mockingbird is an unforgettable novel that follows Scout and Jem through life, learning the roots of racism and prejudice and dealing with their consequences. As the reader, you’ll see examples of good and evil within communities and individuals, and you may be tempted to evaluate your own values after you’re finished.
Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl
Anne Frank’s diary will likely unsettle your stomach and bring forward dozens of questions, yet it is an important work that everyone should read. In the beginning, the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands is taking shape, and Anne and her family go into hiding in their secret annex for two years.
The Outsiders deals with family, friendship, identity, alcohol, and violence. The writer, S. E. Hinton (age 18 when published), faced numerous problems at home and school. Her way of “venting” about these problems was to write honestly and passionately.
By far one of Jane Austen’s best classic comedies, Emma follows female protagonist Emma Woodhouse as she meddles in everyone’s lives – even romantically! Fun fact: Did you know the film Clueless was based on this novel?
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Read along and experience the Jazz Age on Long Island through your own eyes. In this novel, Jay Gatsby falls in love with Daisy Buchanan. As time passes, you’ll envision lavish parties in New York with lots of dancing and drinking. It’s no wonder we want our own Roaring ’20s.
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
Looking to read one of the greatest love stories of all time? If so, Wuthering Heights should be your starting point. Watch this dark and twisty romance between Cathy and Heathcliff. By the middle of the book, you won’t know who you like or dislike more – but you won’t be able to walk away until you know the ending.
