Home is where the heart is, but it’s totally understandable if you don’t love how long it takes you to clean it. Between work, friends, family, and personal time, it can be hard to even think about cleaning. So we’ve put together a few of our best cleaning hacks to save you time and energy!
Refrigerator Shelving
Say goodbye to sprinkling baking soda or using expensive cleaners on your refrigerator shelves. Instead, lay wax paper or a press and seal saran wrap onto your shelves to catch accidental spills. Then, as you need to, toss the liner and lay down fresh sheets.
Let It Soak
Spray your bathtub with cleaner and let it sit while you clean other bathroom surfaces. Then revisit the tub for a wipe-down (or just a rinse) about 10 minutes later. Allowing your cleaner to soak into that soap scum should make removing it much more manageable.
Cleaner of Crayons
If you have a little Picasso at home who decided your walls needed some color, grab a hair dryer and paper towels; you can melt the crayon right off in a matter of minutes!
When Life Gives You Lemons
Microwave splatters are the worst! Save time and ick by microwaving two freshly squeezed lemon halves and letting the steam do the work. All you have to do is wipe, and your microwave will be spotless in no time.
Sticky Stuff
Lampshades are notorious for collecting dust. Ditch the dirt by using a lint roller on all of your lampshades.
Line It Up
If you use your oven frequently, line baking sheets with aluminum foil to eliminate baked-on, burnt-on messes. You can also line oven racks with aluminum foil or purchase non-stick oven liners. All you have to do is wipe them down from time to time.
Dust with Dryer Sheets
Baseboards, screens, fans, and any surface that attracts dust can be dusted with a dryer sheet. The best part? Dryer sheets reduce static cling, which prevents dust from clinging to surfaces in the future!
On the Daily
Once you deep-clean, it’s all maintenance after that. Once a day, choose a room and devote 15-20 minutes to spot cleaning. This will save you a ton of time in the long run.
Use the Dishwasher to Your Advantage
Refrigerator shelving, bath toys without any openings, plastic shoes like Crocs, and more can be run through the dishwasher. Just be careful not to use the hottest setting!
Drab to Fab Drapes
There’s nothing fun or fast about taking down drapes, washing and ironing them, and hanging them back up. Instead, use your vacuum’s upholstery attachment while your curtains are still up, working from top to bottom. Then steam them with a hand steamer if needed.
