A lot of us suffer from what is known as the “Sunday Scaries,” those feelings of anxiety and dread before the work week starts. Getting the Sunday Scaries doesn’t mean you hate your job; it just means you’re aware that a new week is coming, and you don’t necessarily know what to expect. Fortunately, there are things you can do to ensure you start your week off on a good note. Let’s review some of our favorite Sunday rituals to help set you up for the best week.
Schedule “Me” Time
Sundays have a way of flying by, so make sure you make “me” time by doing something you love or practicing self-care. Whether it’s yoga, meditation, reading, or crafting, just make sure you’re committed to yourself for a chunk of the day.
Prep Your Meals
Even prepping just one meal for the following week will save you time and stress. Having healthy meals prepared also means you’re less likely to cave and eat junk food.
Stock Your Kitchen
Just as you should take time to prep your meals, you should also hit the grocery store to stock your pantry and fridge. You’ll not only have all the items you need to prepare your meals, but you will also minimize the need to make several small trips to the store during the week.
Get Your Inbox to Zero
We aren’t saying that working and deleting emails should take up a large part of your day, but setting aside a few minutes to get your inbox to (near) zero will be one less thing you have to do come Monday morning. While you’re at it, jot down any meetings or deadlines in the coming week.
Clean Out Your Handbag
We don’t know about you, but our bags tend to accumulate a lot of wrappers, receipts, empty water bottles, and more. So start the week fresh by cleaning out your handbag.
Choose Your Outfits
We can waste a lot of time in the morning trying to get dressed. However, putting a few outfit options together on Sunday can prepare you for the inevitable feeling of having “nothing to wear.”
Tidy Up
Take time on Sunday to declutter and wipe down surfaces in your home. You should feel better knowing your space is clean and tidy for the week ahead.
Hit the Sack Early
Your Monday morning says a lot about your week, so be sure to get plenty of sleep the night before. Turn off the TV, set your phone to Do Not Disturb, and turn the lights down to ensure you’ll fall into a peaceful slumber. Pro tip: Don’t let your sleep patterns get out of whack by staying up late or sleeping in on the weekends.
Make Time for Nothing
Sundays and “I shoulds” go hand in hand, but they don’t have to. It’s okay to just be and not rush from obligation to obligation.
