We have all been there. We are incredibly sleepy, and the professor is talking about an uninteresting subject in a very monotonous voice. Sooner or later, we catch our eyes closing. At times like these, it can be especially challenging to stay awake in class, but the tips below can help you power through without falling asleep.
Get Enough Sleep The Night Before
This tip is obvious but very important. You need at least seven hours of sleep to function properly, which is why sleep is vital! When you are well-rested, you will have more interest in your classes.
Drink Water
Water will help you replenish your body and feel more awake. When you are dehydrated, your eyes will feel tired, and your vision may become blurry. You may experience signs of fatigue, confusion, and disorientation. Not having enough hydration during the day can make you feel exhausted, so it’s essential to drink enough water.
Physical Activity
Stretching or going for a walk before class or during a break will get your blood flowing and help you stay awake. Having enough physical activity during the week will also help you increase your energy levels.
Improve Your Posture
Instead of sitting in a crouched position, try moving your shoulders back and sitting straight. A good posture will allow you to get the oxygen you need to stay awake and will help you remain focused.
Try To Be Engaged In Class
Try to participate in class. Answer the questions your professor or teacher is asking and get involved in the discussion. This will help you stay focused on the course, and you will be more likely to pay attention. If you can’t participate in this way because of how your classes are structured, take notes. Taking notes will keep you engaged and focused during class since you have to listen to what the professor is saying to write it down.
Take a Shower
Waking up at least an hour before your class starts and taking the time to shower will help you stay awake. Waking up earlier will give you time to get organized and ready for the day. End your shower with cold water as this will improve your circulation and help you stay alert.
