Swimsuit Trends From The 70s To the 2000s

Swimsuits have transformed over the decades. From plunging one-pieces, to barely there bikinis, the way we wear swimsuits has evolved. Take a look at the swimsuits below at how women have worn them over the past 40 years.

The 70s

The 70s are remembered for a lot of bold statements in fashion. Swimsuits are no exception. During the early parts of this decade, it was popular to wear a two piece without much structure. This was so it’d be easier to maneuver in a bikini, which was right in line with the tune of the 70s.

There was also the classic Foxy Brown Pam Grier look. Women sported large sunglasses and crocheted bikini tops for fierce look. By mid 70s, Farrah Fawcett set off a trend of the plunging one-piece halter.

By the end of this decade, flesh-colored suits were in as that era was all about being natural with your style.

The 80s

During the early 80s, swimsuits weren’t about over the top glamour. A simple one-piece was perfect for a timeless look. By the mid 80s, swimsuits ventured on the bikini side. However, simple colors like white, red and black were still preferred.

Towards the end of this decade, swimsuits were all about being over the top and glamorous. Goldie Hawn pulled off the over-the-top look perfectly in the movie Overboard.

The 90s

Boy short bottoms and bandeau top bikinis ruled the early 90s. When it came to colors, bold neon hues were in. The mid 90s was an interesting mix of Bay Watch red one pieces and muted tones. By the end of this decade, one-shoullder mailots  with multiple colors reigned.

The 2000s

This decade was kicked off with sportier looks thanks a lot to Angelina Jolie’s look in Tomb Raider. Pretty much that decade carried a variety of sporty looks from mis-matched bikinis to boy shorts.
