Summer Skirts You Need When You Don’t Feel Like Wearing Pants

Summer is almost here, and that means the days are getting longer and hotter. Those who live where heat and humidity are hard to escape already understand the discomfort of wearing pants, so, we’ve picked out a few skirts for you to “add to cart” now so that you’re ready to, you know, not wear pants later.

Madewell Paperbag Button-Front Midi Skirt ($79.50, shop here)

Our favorite thing about skirts (aside from the fact that they aren’t pants) is how easy they are to style. You can pair tops and shoes with a skirt to achieve almost any fashion trend. We’re starting with this cotton-blend midi-length button-down skirt, which is guaranteed to keep you cool and comfortable no matter where you’re off to this summer.

We suggest pairing this skirt with a basic black-and-white striped tee tucked in all the way so everyone can notice its adorable paper-bag waist. For shoes, slip on your most comfortable pair of natural leather slides. To top off the look, opt for a woven straw bag, and voila: the perfect summer outfit.

Banana Republic Linen-Cotton Utility Mini Skirt ($79.50, shop here)

This skirt is a linen blend, so we were immediately sold. We also adore the length: short enough to be called a mini skirt, but long enough that you can feel comfortable wearing it in any setting, whether at work, catching a walk in the park, or on a weekend getaway.

For a summer look, we love the idea of pairing this skirt with a button-down chambray top, either tucked in or French-tucked, and a pair of Keds. To complete the look, don some round sunnies and a bold pair of geometric statement earrings.

This is also a great skirt for fall and winter. Pair it with a warm sweater, tights, and chunky boots, and you can easily transition into the cooler months.

O’Neill Ambrosio Skirt ($49.50, shop here)

Talk about a versatile skirt! This flowing beauty can be dressed up for formal events or dressed way down for everyday life. This gorgeous balsam-colored skirt is high-waisted, has a wide waistband, and has a unique high-to-low hem in the front.

To style this skirt for summer, we recommend keeping things simple by pairing it with a graphic tee and white tennis shoes. If you are somewhere that is naturally cooler (i.e., the office), you may want to wear a denim jacket for some extra warmth – without sweating too much later.

The best way to describe this skirt is “flouncy.” This material is lightweight and, thanks to the ruffles, bounces in all the right places. This skirt is very breezy to throw on during the hottest of days. Pair it with a button-down chambray shirt, a button-down white tank top, a knotted tee, or even a dark band tee.

No matter which top you choose, we suggest accessorizing with platforms, a small crossbody bag, some vintage sunnies, and a pair of statement earrings to add some color or shine to the outfit.
