Glenn Weiss’s Emmys Proposal Stuns Daughters

The on-camera audience that watched director Glenn Weiss propose to his longtime girlfriend Jan Svendsen at the Emmys reacted with happy emotion. But word on the street is that not everyone was smitten with the surprise romantic gesture.

Weiss’ 17- and 21-year-old daughters were watching at home when the Academy Awards director went down on one knee and presented Svendsen with his mother’s engagement ring. “And to my sisters and brothers, I didn’t swipe it, Dad said it was OK,” Weiss assured listeners.

Stars in the audience, including Jimmy Kimmel, Leslie Jones, Benedict Cumberbatch and Claire Foy, responded with rousing applause and tears. His daughters learned about Weiss’ proposal along with everyone else who saw the stunner on television, according to an insider. The source said they were “completed shocked and blindsided.”

Svendsen, however, is reported to have said, “He nailed it!”

Weiss thanked his daughters after dedicating his award to his recently deceased mother. “Thanks to my daughters, Sydney and Taylor. I love you girls more than you will ever know,’ the director began his acceptance speech before segueing into the proposal.
