Our Favorite Pore-Minimizing Products

We get that pores are essential to our skin, but when they’re clogged and oversized, we could do without them! Luckily, there are a lot of easy-to-use products that clean pores and shrink their appearance. Here are a few of our faves.

What Are Pores?

Pores are tiny openings around hair follicles and sweat glands that help liquids and gases move through the surface of your skin. Pores are found anywhere with oil glands and are more concentrated on the face. Oil, dead skin cells, sweat, ineffective cleansing, hormonal fluctuations, and stress can all contribute to clogged pores.

Can a Product Really Shrink Pores?

In short, no. Pores don’t really grow or shrink; however, pore-minimizing products clear out all of the gunk, reducing the appearance of pores.

Pore-Minimizing Products

With so many pore-minimizing products on the market, it can be difficult to know which one to choose! Here are some of our favorites.

E.l.f. Cosmetics Acne Fighting Putty Primer ($12, shop here)

Not only does this primer ensure your makeup stays flawless all day, but it’s made with acne-fighting ingredients such as salicylic acid, zinc, and kaolin that work together to draw out imperfections, minimize the appearance of pores, calm irritated skin, and prevent future breakouts.

CeraVe Renewing Salicylic Acid Cleanser ($17.99, shop here)

Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA), which means it’s really good at removing dead skin cells. While some cleansers leave skin feeling stripped and tight, CeraVe’s Renewing SA Cleanser exfoliates and hydrates the skin, leaving it clean and refreshed.

Instanatrual 7% Glycolic AHA Toner ($21.50, shop here)

Glycolic acid alone provides major exfoliating benefits. But glycolic acid combined with hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and nourishing botanicals also offers cell renewal support and hydration, brightening discoloration.

Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay ($16.95, shop here)

If you’re looking for a natural product, it doesn’t get more natural than a single ingredient. This pure bentonite clay turns into a face mask once combined with water. Clay masks have antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties. They can also be extremely drying to sensitive skin, so do not leave this mask on longer than five minutes.

Paula’s Choice Resist Daily Pore-Refining Treatment with 2% BHA ($37, shop here)

This daily leave-on liquid exfoliant not only minimizes the appearance of pores but also helps with sun damage, aging, and bumpy skin. This lightweight, non-abrasive formula can be used twice daily after cleansing and toning skin.
