7 Simple Ways To Revive Damaged Hair

Trying something new with your hair, especially during quarantine, sounds like fun. Whether that means dying it, braiding it, or giving yourself beautiful beach waves…playing around with your look can give you a fresh outlook. The only downside is that all of these styles come at a certain price, because they can cause your hair to become dry and damaged. If you find yourself with damaged hair, there are plenty of tricks and treatments you can try to revive your beautiful locks. To prevent your hair from becoming damaged, or to bring it back from the dead, be sure to follow these tips:

How to Help Prevent Damaged Hair

Use less heat on your hair! Irons, curlers, and blow dryers can cause a lot of damage to hair by drying it out. If you must use heat on your hair, make sure you are using a thermal protectant spray that protects and moisturizes the hair!

Make sure you are using the right shampoo for your hair! There are many shampoos formulated with harsh chemicals that end up doing more damage to your hair than good. If you can, opt for a sulfate-free shampoo. It’s important to find a shampoo that will repair, moisturize and remove dirt from your hair without completely stripping it of all its natural oils.

Try a hair mask! Sometimes our hair needs a little extra TLC. There are many great hair masks out there that moisturize and repair damaged hair. Look for ones with coconut oil for an extra treat. You can either buy a mask or make one at home with natural ingredients! Mask your hair once a week and you will see a difference.

Leave-in conditioner is your new best friend! Sometimes, conditioning your hair in the shower just isn’t enough to bring damaged hair back from the dead. Leave-in conditioner can moisturize your locks more fully because it doesn’t get rinsed out. There are different leave-in treatments for different types of hair, so make sure to find the one that fits your hair type the best!

Make sure to cut those ends! If you let your split ends get out of control, you are going to have to cut a lot more hair in order to remove all the damage. By frequently trimming your dead ends, you are giving your hair the opportunity to grow long and healthy.

Protect your locks from the sun! Sun, saltwater, chlorine, and other chemicals found in pools can cause your hair to become damaged and the color to fade. The best thing you can do for your hair when you know you are going to be in the sun and water all day is to wear a hat! Then once you get home, make sure to deep condition your hair to give it some extra moisture.

Use less hot water! There are few things better than a nice steamy shower, but unfortunately, bathing with hot water takes an incredible toll on your hair by stripping it of its moisture. Cold showers may not seem as appealing, but they will do wonders for your hair. If you can’t give up a hot shower, finish it off with a cool rinse to seal your hair’s cuticles and lock in all that good conditioner.
