The phrase “all-inclusive vacation” sounds luxurious, relaxing, and harmonious: delicious restaurants, exquisite beverages, fun activities, and more. Heaven on Earth? You could make the comparison. But before you let your guard down and indulge in the seemingly endless possibilities of an all-inclusive trip, there are a few things you should know.
All-Inclusive Packages Don’t Always Cover Every Expense
When you hear something is “all-inclusive,” what do you think it means? Many assume everything is included – flights, accommodations, food, alcoholic beverages, etc. But, sadly, that’s not always the case.
Our recommendation is to always read the fine print. Some resorts that tout themselves as “all-inclusive” may only include access to basic amenities, while others include everything but gratuity. It’s better to be safe than sorry, especially when spending money on vacation.
To Get the Most Out of Your Experience, Stray From the Resort
We would never suggest roaming an island by yourself. But we do recommend looking outside the resort for excursions with your travel buddies. While it may be more cost-effective, if you stay at the resort the whole time, you’ll miss out on what your destination has to offer. Check out the surrounding locations, learn about the culture, and say “yes” to adventure.
Don’t Eat at the Buffet the Whole Time
The buffet is easy. It has almost every food you can think of, from pizza and pasta to meats, fruit, and decadent desserts! But eating there every day is not adventurous. Instead, check out the specialty sit-down restaurants available. Be sure to make reservations in advance because those time slots fill up fast.
Tipping Your Service Providers Goes a Long Way
Do you know the saying, “It pays to tip your bartender?” At all-inclusive resorts, tipping usually isn’t included in the package. A few bucks here and there for the bartenders, servers, housekeepers, and any other service personnel can go a long way. So, definitely bring extra cash.
Say No Thank You to Tap Water
Be aware and do your research about the local drinking water. Some destinations do not have the cleanest track record. Though purified at the source, H2O can still get contaminated on the way to the tap. Our safest suggestion would be to simply drink bottled water.
Don’t Stay in the Sun All Day
Vitamin D and sun-kissed skin are benefits of lounging in the sun all day. But if you stay in the sun for too long – especially in tropical climates – you risk getting sunburn. Not only is sunburn dangerous, but it can lead to heat exhaustion and dehydration – all scenarios that’ll make your trip quite dreadful…and painful.
