Hair extensions can be high maintenance and are a pretty big beauty commitment. However, if you follow a few simple steps and create an easy to follow routine, you should easily be able to keep them in tip-top condition at all times.
Detangle
One of the most obvious yet essential steps to take is regularly brushing your hair extensions. Invest in a hairbrush that’s specifically designed for detangling and maintaining hair extensions and be sure to take time to brush them a few times throughout the day. Always ensure you brush from the ends and gently work your way up towards your roots.
Deep Condition
Hydrating your hair extensions is vital for keeping them in optimal condition. Aim to use one nourishing, leave-in treatment a week and focus on applying it to the ends of the extensions while avoiding the bonds. You can even use your brush to distribute the treatment throughout your hair and extensions to ensure they are evenly coated. Once you have conditioned the hair, carefully rinse using warm water. Also, invest in a heat-protective spray or serum if you plan on using heat on your extensions to protect them from becoming dry or damaged.
Plait Before Bed
It’s much easier for hair extensions to become tangled than it is with normal hair, it’s even more crucial that you try your best to prevent this. Before going to bed, we recommend loosely braiding or twisting your extensions and tying them with a hairband. This will help keep your extensions knot-free and make them much easier to manage in the morning.
Air Dry
Although you can easily blow dry many hair extensions, leaving them to air dry is the best way to prevent heat damage. If you do blow dry them, put your hairdryer on a low heat setting and be sure to use a soft bristle brush to gently style.
