Perfect Lingerie for Summer Outfits

Looking pretty while wearing as little as possible during the sweltering dog days of August calls for some innovative lingerie thinking. The challenge may be preserving the look of a charmingly sheer blouse without a layer of underwear that’s too opaque and spoils the effect. The designer jumpsuit takes a bold plunge and you need a supportive bra that dips just as deep. Cutouts and cold-shoulder designs need bras that are easily adaptable. Skimpy summer garments need more than a little bit of planning. These bras, bralettes and briefs are up to the challenge.

The See-Through Blouse
Bralettes were made with sheer tops in mind. When displaying too much bare skin is not appropriate, wearing a sheer blouse atop a bralette lets summer breezes through to keep you cool. The look is perfect combo that lets you show off the sheerest blouse without worry while bringing your prettiest bralette out in the (almost) open.

Gigi Softcup Bra, $73; at Lonely

This bralette is a best seller for Lonely and features a triangle soft cup style that’s both delicate and detailed with a sheer flocked polka-dot mesh. The front bust and front straps feature slim elastic panel detailing that’s seen on contrasting wider back straps. The underband is made of super soft elastic for comfort.

Team it with a classic white brief, like the cutely cut-out Marieyat Yu Brief, $62; at Need Supply Co.

The Deep-V Dress

When the neckline takes a deep plunge, you’ll need a bra goes along for the dive.

Beautifully Basic Lace Back Plunge Bra, $46; at On Gossamer

The lace back plunge bra serves up a bold look with its low-cut, scoop neckline. The fit is flawless from the J-hook adjustable straps for T-back styles to the full-stretch, lace wings. Light padding provides just a little extra lift.

For a figure-skimming silhouette, pair it with a Cotton-Modal Thong, $12.50; from Madewell.

The Tight, White Jumpsuit

This style may be one of the trickiest you’ll ever pull off. Try acute, comfy bralette that’s too cute to keep under wraps. A barely-there bralette that’s definitely ready for its closeup should do the trick. Larger-breasted women may want to stick with a jumpsuit that has a narrower neckline that calls for a for proper plunge bra.

Jacalyn Bennett Chantilly Bralette, $68; at Journelle

Classic triangle cups are constructed from luxe, wide panels of Chantilly lace that scallop decadently along the décolleté. A single slender band of elastic snuggles this exquisite wireless against the body. The bralette features simple, adjustable-all-the-way straps.
